PSI is a
highly specialized company focusing on field application of polymer gel
treatments.
The purpose
of the polymer gel treatment is to reduce excessive water production and
increase oil or gas production from wells that produce from water-drive
reservoirs. These wells are typically produced from naturally fractured
carbonate reservoirs such as dolomites and limestones in mature fields.
Successful treatments are also run in certain types of sandstone reservoirs.
Other practical applications of polymer gels include the treatment of
waterflood injection wells to correct channeling or change the injection
profile, to improve the ability of the injected fluids to sweep the producing
wells in the field, making the waterflood much more effecient and allowing
the operator to recover more oil in a shorter period of time.
Polymer
gels are effective for selectively blocking the flow of water to the wellbore,
without adversely affecting the ability of of oil or gas to flow to the
wellbore. This occurs because the polymer has a chemical affinity toward
water-wet rock, and is chemically repelled by oil-wet rock. Thus, the
polymer tends to absorb to water-wet rock surfaces, and form a stable
gel in this area of the reservoir, blocking the flow of water.
Polymer gels
are also effective for plugging high permeability streaks or fractures,
forcing produced fluids to sweep oil from lower permeability areas of
the reservoir. The use of polymer gels often changes the drainage pattern
of fluid to the wellbore, plugging large fractures and allowing matrix
oil to become mobilized, which had previously been over-run by water coming
to the wellbore through fractures and high-permeability streaks.
Polymer gels
are also highly-effective in correcting problems in reservoirs affected
by high mobility ratios between water, and oil. An unfavorable mobility
ratio occurs when a low gravity, or heavy crude is present in a water
drive reservoir. Because the water is a thinner fluid with a viscosity
significantly lower than the viscosity of the oil, the water travels through
the reservoir and arrives at the wellbore much faster and more easily
than the thick oil, creating a high water-oil ratio and increasing the
lifting costs to produce oil. The polymer gel selectively blocks the flow
of water, allowing the available bottom-hole pressure to more effeciently
push oil to the wellbore. This results in a decrease in the amount of
water production and an increase in oil production from the treated well.
Polymer Services,
LLC assists the oil operater with the design and implementation of the
treatment from start to finish, beginning with screening of the wells
and selection of the candidate wells likely to respond most favorably
to the treatment process. Because we specialize in the successful application
of polymer gel treatments, we have a large base of experience to draw
from, having run many treatments in many different types of reservoirs.
We will not advise a customer to treat a well which we believe has a slim
chance of success, because it will lower our overall success rate, and
will reflect poorly on our company and the abilities of our people.
Polymer Services,
LLC currently uses state of the art equipment to blend, apply and monitor
the treatments in the filed. We build the equipment in our shop, according
to our own specifications. We feel this is a very important factor which
sets our company apart from others who attempt to pump the treatments
with equipment not designed for this purpose. Because of our equipment
design, we are able to get very precise chemical mixtures which cannot
be achieved with other types of equipment. We feel that our specially
designed equipment contributes greatly to our success rate.
Most polymer
gel treatments payout in a matter of months, and continue paying benefits
for years.
